Potential threats which have been introduced by IT

Hackers- Hackers are people who will attempt to access your computer for e.g. personal files, viruses, Bank details etc. They do this by working from their computer, maybe from the other side of the world.

Identity Theft- Identity theft is when somebody steals your identity. They can do this by getting a hold of your bank cards, license, birth certificate etc.

Trolling- Trolling is when someone pretends to be somebody else via the internet e.g. facebook. They will make a false account and use it to annoy, bully and hurt other people.

Racism- Racism is when you insult somebody because of the colour of their skin or where they are from e.g. if someone has dark skin.

Sex Offenders- A sex offender can operate through the internet by using social networking sites e.g. facebook. They do this by claiming to be a yiounger age than they actually are. They then contact people around that age and ask to meet up.

Copyright- The copyright law was created to help people protect their online files e.g. Music, Videos, Images etc.

Cyber Bullying- Cyber Bullying is another type of bullying.  It is when somebody uses an online account to upset somebody else.

Stalkers- A stalker is somebody who follows a person about all the time.

ICT has on Education

There are websites where teacher post assignments and tasks for the students to download instead of printing out everything wasting print credits, carrying everything in a bag, Here an example of a website that they use it in the SRC southern regional college for that is Moodle another word VLE – Virtual Learning Environment.

Software for education purposes, students use lots of software’s on a computer such as spreadsheet, word, database etc, in a very long time ago they didn’t have these types of software so they would have to draw everything out and write everything down, and now days all they have to do is type it down, and its easy to

There are websites for education, these websites such as Wikipedia, yahoo answer’s etc.

Omp

Interactive sites like www.bbc.co.uk have certain games that can teach children about math, English etc.

Podcasting can be extremely helpful for students and teachers. For example, it can be a guide throughout a PowerPoint, making it easier to understand

Blogging can be used by anybody with an internet connection. You can write about anything you want, or look at other peoples blogs e.g. somebody else may have a blog about science.

Impact of ICT on Medicine

They would keep all the name and type of the products saved in a database so they would never forget everything and keep it all tidy and in track. They would also use the database to save the records of every client incase they are suffering anything. They can check if all the clients medication are all up to date etc.

There’s also virtual surgery websites and its training doctors on various operations, it takes you through every step on doing a surgery.

There are also expert systems such as x-rays, x-rays scans your inside body parts, it shows the bone inside, by looking at an x-ray you would be able to tell if the bone is broken or hurt etc.

Impact of ICT has on disabled visual impairment and hearing impairment, special devices such as automatic doors for disabled people who are unable to open doors so all they have to do is press the button or just get close to it and it will automatically open, chair lift for people on wheel chairs to go up stairs without any problems and to get back down them as well.

There’s also the MRI which scans serious diseases such as cancer, brain tumors etc, its very useful to find these things out because its easy to find if the person has diseases so they can get on and do surgeries to fix the bodies.

Impact of ICT on manufacturing

There has been a big increase on computer software’s lately here are 2 very useful program software used today. Those 2 computer software’s are Cam and Cad

Cam – is used for robots example if they build up a robot they would be able to make it do the job repetitive. It’s basically the use of computer software and hardware in the change of computer- aiden design models into manufacturing for numerical controlled machine tools

Cad – is mostly used for drawing, when I say drawing I don’t mean drawing on paint etc I mean drawing layout of houses, radiator companies children farm sets etc.

Years ago they wouldn’t have these types of software for these types of software’s so that’s how ICT has made an impact on manufacturing.

IT in Banking

IT is used a lot in banking. To begin with all information that the bank has is kept on Databases e.g. Personal details, Amount of Money in each account etc.

An ATM machine is used as a sort of mini bank. In order to use an ATM you must have either a debit or bank card. You must then enter a pin and then you will be allowed to access your bank account. The ATM will then scan threw their database in order to find you account. Once you have entered your bank account you can access your balance and/or take money out.

Online banking is very useful for people who check up on their balance often.
It can save a lot of time as you will not have to go to the bank or a cash machine to check your balance. You can also keep an eye on how much money you have been spending, meaning you can set your self a budget.

While online banking can be extremely useful, it can have big disadvantages.

An example of a disadvantage would be if you accidently forgot to sign out of your bank account. Somebody could come along and be able to steal all of your bank information, check your balance etc.

Using I.C.T in a small business

I.C.T can help small businesses by using:-

Spreadsheets- Spreadsheet can be used to keep information on work staff, Customers, stock etc.

Graphics- Graphics can be used to create things like posters, logos, billboards etc.

Word Processing- word processing can be used to write out emails and letters. You can also use it for templates. These templates include things like brochures, leaflets etc.

Desktop publishing- Desktop publishing creates a template for e.g. leaflet that you can work of to create your own.

Database- A Database can be used to create forms. You can add, amend and delete information within these forms.

Accounts- Accounts can be used to keep information on every sale that has been made. E.g. you can check your earnings at the end of every week.

E-mail- You can use an email to send important information e.g. new stock coming into the business. This email can be sent to work colleges, suppliers etc.

Internet browser- A small business will use the internet to create their own website. This can increase sales as you may be able to advertise your products. Larger businesses may even sell their products from online.
They can also use the internet to look up competitors.

Social Impact of IT

Since the introduction of computers there has been an increase in *Copyright*.
Copyright is when you use another person’s work without asking.

The Copyright law (Copyright, Designs and Patients Act 1998) was created to give certain legal protection to authors of materials. It is used to give protection to the copyright holder and also to reward them if someone tries to use their work e.g. image. It was originally intended for things like books, music and photographs but over the years it has developed and is now used to also protect movies, jewelry cloths etc. Schools and Colleges are allowed to copy 1% of published work.

The items, software, music etc covered by the copy right law are listed below:-

Literacy works- An example of a literacy work would be anything to do with words e.g. books, brochures, pamphlets and speeches. Games, automated databases and certain computer programs are also listed in the literacy works.

Musical works- An example of a musical work would be something like an album, a song, a backing track etc. Even recording somebody singing can be classed as a copyright.

Dramatic works- Dramatic works is something like a play e.g. Macbeth.

What sort of impact has I.T had on our society?
